This project, sponsored by Eli Lilly and Company Design Labs, explores the future of digital health. Our team of 6 was tasked with envisioning and prototyping forward-thinking approaches for healthcare and people living with dementia. We began our research process with an inclusive design framework with guidance from industry mentors Steve Kaneko, Surya Vanka, and Eli Lilly and Company designers. Our response to this prompt is Archive: An AR system that empowers people to capture, recall, and share generational memories with loved ones. Archive curates these multi-sensory memories by surfacing object-orientated playback suggestions— transforming tangible objects into a portal for accessing preserved memories. The ecosystem also leverages recorded memories to answer questions and provide assistance with daily tasks. As memories are collected, people can choose to share them with loved ones and establish them as future family heirlooms. With growing collections, preserved memories create a sense of ongoingness. Providing reassurance in knowing that the value of one’s lived moments will not be lost and can be revisited from time to time.
