As senior designers, we asked ourselves: what if we designed objects to fail? Twelve Industrial Design students collaborated to create a collection of intentionally impractical everyday items—products made deliberately “unfriendly” to challenge expectations. These ironic pieces use discomfort and humor to highlight the importance of functional design conventions. By breaking the rules in bizarre, unexpected ways, the collection draws attention to just how vital usability is in daily life. This project serves as both a critique and celebration of design, reminding us that good design often goes unnoticed—until it’s gone. Design is everywhere, and its absence is unmistakable.
