Aven is the result of examining the intersection of personal caregiving and anticipatory grief. Despite the widespread practice of caregiving for aging or ill loved ones, there remain few accessible, tangible artifacts to aid individuals through the process. Not one journey is the same, yet, they are anchored around an obligation to pay love forward. The final design intends to serve as a living memorial in caregivers’ homes, deepening its significance over time akin to other family heirlooms. Additionally, the interactions and display are present reminders that one’s experience is not isolated.
